A bidirectional relief valve focuses on limiting system pressure. When the system pressure exceeds the set pressure value, it releases the excess pressure back into the oil tank, ensuring the safety of the hydraulic system.

working principle
If the system pressure is below the set value, the spring force holds the spool in the closed position, preventing hydraulic fluid from flowing out of the relief port. When the system pressure rises and exceeds the set value, the pressure force overcomes the spring force and pushes the spool to shift, opening the relief port.
A spring-loaded mechanism within the valve is balanced against the system pressure; when the pressure becomes too high, the spring is overcome, causing the valve to open and release fluid.
Bi-directional overflow valves are often used in conjunction with motors.
