Hydraulic locks are mainly used for static locking of loads and can only realize switch actions, such as: car crane outriggers, some airport aerial platforms with relatively small loads and relatively stable changes, horizontal directional drills, shear-type aerial platforms, fire trucks, sanitation vehicles and other equipment. It is not suitable for dynamic speed control of descent with negative loads and relatively large load changes (smooth start-up and descent to prevent stalling).

If a closed center multi-way valve (mid-position function is O-type) must be used, it is recommended that users choose a hydraulic lock with a pilot piston without an O-ring, which can ensure that when the multi-way valve mid-position O-type is closed, the pressure at both ends of the pilot piston is equal, thereby preventing the hydraulic lock from opening.
